Vineyards

Bella Luna

Nestled in the shadow of the redwoods that grow in the Western Russian River Valley's coastal fog, this vineyard is a viticulturist's dream. With a slight western exposure, Bella Luna enjoys the cooling ocean fogs that roll in from the Pacific Coast. This keeps the climate more temperate, a good 7 to 8 F degrees cooler in the summer than inland locations, and helps guard against erratic temperature swings and hot spells that can affect more easterly Russian River locations. And because the vineyard is perched higher than surrounding lands, it gets a warming sun to keep mildews away. The site itself is relatively flat, allowing vines to ripen slowly and evenly, making harvest and cluster selection more consistent.

In 2006, the vineyard was farmed using high level sustainable farming practices and is now in-transition to official Demeter Biodynamic® certification.

Shone Farm

At the southeastern end of the Russian River Valley, in a neighborhood highly sought after by elite artisan winemakers, the Shone Farm site is ideal for growing Sauvignon Blanc. The four-acre, Block 3 parcel has those low pH soils so important to the acid development of Sauvignon Blanc grapes. The Pleasanton Gravelly Loam soil composition, along with a southern facing slope, help ripen the fruit flavors while maintaining the acid needed for a well-balanced, fresh wine. To concentrate flavors and aromas, we keep the yields very low (under three tons per acre).

This vineyard uses organic farming methods and produces Sauvignon Blanc fruit under a certified-sustainable grape growing program.
